Instead of there being a break or a lapse where the eyelet meets the upper near the sole, the shoe’s leather wraps around to the other side and meets there. Pictures explain this much better so I suggest taking a look. Super minimal aesthetic with next level construction behind the scenes.

Sometimes they make it from odd materials, other times they object dye it, sometimes they cover the entire shoe in felt but this time they decided to mummify the entire thing. I can imagine the distressing and wear of the shoe will age the shoe nicely as the mache peels around creases.
