08 “Yen Bills” Elastic Band Bifold Key Wallet
Maison Margiela
$910
08 “Yen Bills” Elastic Band Bifold Key Wallet
Maison Martin Margiela 2008 "Yen Bills" Elastic Band Bifold Key Wallet. Released alongside with the now popular Margiela "Dollar Bills" Bifold Wallet is this lesser known Margiela "Yen Bills" Keychain Wallet. Featured in the Margiela by Margiela Rizzoli book, the man himself dedicated an entire page for both wallets. Coveted by collectors, this piece and its counterpart contain small thoroughly thought out details. A handful of laminated 10,000 yen bills are stacked casually on top of each other to resemble a crude stack of bills. On the bill print itself, alongside where the serial number sought to be, is the consecutive numbers design that indicate the collection the wallet belongs to with "11" being circled. Meiji era philosopher/writer Yukichi Fukuzawa's face is completely blanked out along with his name. The denomination is edited to "00000" from "10000". The holographic sticker is also edited to "00000" from "10000". These small details precisely convey Margiela's design agenda; More specifically the deconstruction, absence of identity, norm romanticization and the continued study of a subject's unadulterated elements by dusting away excess down to its raw core. Inside the wallet consists a Margiela's stamp and a handful of keychain holders. Held together with elastic band. 7.5/10 condition.$910 -

SS01 “010” Men’s Artisanal Hand Painted Denim Jacket
Maison Margiela
$780
SS01 “010” Men’s Artisanal Hand Painted Denim Jacket
Maison Margiela SS01 Men's Artisanal "010" Hand Painted Vintage Denim Jacket. From the interview with Interview Magazine: " From very early on, we came to the point where we realized that, in addition to our main line, we wanted to do something more than take our creative ideas and develop them through an industrialized process. That’s why we launched our Artisanal line. Its concept was-and still is-to reconstruct new garments by using other garments or accessories, used or new." The heart of Margiela's core has always been deconstructionism. Even if the collective design team never identifies themselves as so, its pretty clear to many observers that Maison Margiela, without a doubt, brings life and appreciation to old garments through new perspectives by pulling apart the subject from its core. No longer in production, the Men's artisanal line started in the late 90's with limited pieces each season hand made in France (later Italy) by the Margiela design team. Each piece has a small placard describing the item, its design process and amount of time it took to bring the piece into reality. Due to the laborious and extensive production process of artisanal pieces very few were put into circulation resulting the pieces being preserved in collectors' wardrobes. Men's artisanal pieces have both the "0" and "10" circled on the neck tag with women's only having "0" circled. Each hand painted garment was painted using a particular solution with its own composition and material properties resulting in unique wear-over-time aging. This vintage jacket was painted with a low viscosity, high thickness paint which was washed resulting in most of the leftover paint being clumped up at seams, collar, wrists and other areas where paint buildup was high. Painted pieces from the artisanal line are being replicated and produced today but never came close to the attention of detail of the original artisanal garments. 8/10 condition. Some wear and colour loss at inner neck. Size M fits a classic M. Made in France.$780 -

Woven Basketweave German Army Trainers
Maison Margiela
$226
Woven Basketweave German Army Trainers
Maison Martin Margiela Basketweave Gats. The German Army Trainer, originally designed by the Dassler Brothers and reshaped by the German Army which standardized the Bundeswehr GAT, fell into the "replica" line of Margiela during the mid 00's and went through many iterations. Every season Margiela takes the sneaker and "does" something to it; Inverts the colour scheme, makes it out canvas, paints it, makes it out of different shapes of plastic, replaces upper out of used recycled paper, rubberizes it, burns it, papier-mâché mummifies it, glazes it, dips in paint, thrashes it, turns it inside out, makes it out of cork, makes it out of rhinestones, replaces upper with 3m, invert the tongue and remove eyelets so its laceless, changes the texture to faux snakeskin, have the entire Margiela team sign the shoe, provides you with a pen and replaces upper to be a draw-friendly material so you can draw on your gats and so on. For this iteration the front upper portion is made entirely out of a woven basketweave. Its a breathable material better for hotter days and is more flexible than leather, but not water resistant. The basketweave meticulously imitates the original leather design which allows the leather-to-basketweave transition to be masterfully executed. 9/10 condition. Barely any heel drag. Size 44.$226 -

NWT Hand Painted “Cracked” Jeans
Maison Margiela
$202
NWT Hand Painted “Cracked” Jeans
Maison Margiela 2015 Hand Painted Jeans from line "10" - The Men's Collection. One of Maison Margiela's most iconic pieces is the Hand-painted Jean. Usually in white or black paint, the jeans are hand object coated with paint from head to toe, ignoring hardware or seams. Various signature jeans are made throughout Margiela's upbringing consisting of different paint composition and properties.. The paint composition comes in various forms, sometimes textured, thin and flat or hard and distressed. The more complex and iconic hand painted jeans are from the artisanal line of "0" and "0 10" from the late 90's and early 00's. The H&M + Margiela collaboration played an homage to the original Hand Painted Jean. Here we have hand painted jeans with what looks like a low resin paint with a lack of paint thinner resulting in a high viscosity finish. This paint composition results in intense cracking and peeling, chipping away and forming cracks molding around the wearer's pulls and creases. As time passes, the jeans will mold to the user, uniquely aged by him/her, similar to how the process of raw denim fades are formed. New with tags. Size 50 best for a 32-33.$202
